20mm WW2 German Mediterranean infantry platoon

I finished up the platoon of Mediterranean infantry (DAK figures painted in a mix of tropical and temperate uniforms).  New figures are at the front, while the test figures I posted earlier are at the back.  I like the motley look that the mix of uniforms give to the unit.  Apart from southern European action, I think these would work well as units defending Tunisia, as well as troops fighting in the Caucasus.

The whole platoon, three rifle sections of 5 men and three MG34 teams, plus a 6 man command team at the back.

I shall do another of these at some point and I am also scouring my unpainted figures for troops in greatcoats so I can add some figures in earthy brown DAK greatcoats - those early mornings in the desert can be chilly, while the mountains of Tunisia can be bitter.

20mm Hetzer

An Early War Miniatures Hetzer, bought at the Vapnartak show.  This one completes a zug of three vehicles.

I think this is another of the old Skytrex range bought up by EWM.  Relatively quick to assemble with resin hull and white metal tracks, barrel, skirts, spare track links and MG.

I went with a three colour ambush pattern to match the other vehicles in the zug.

The business end!

Straightforward to assemble and painted up nicely.  This will add to the supports available for my Late War Volksgrenadier and Volksturm battlegroups.

20mm M18 Hellcat

An Early War Miniatures M18 Hellcat for my Americans.  Relatively simple assembly, resin hull, metal tracks to stick on and metal turret with metal .50 cal to add.

Painted in brown violet, washed with Agrax Earthshade and dry brushed Iraqi sand.  Black grey for metal and tires.  Khaki for canvas cover on mantlet and tarps.

Decals from I-94 and Skytrex.

Another SPAT option to support an American battlegroup.

20mm WW2 Archer SPAT

I bought this Early War Miniatures Archer at the York Vapnartak show.  I think it's one of the old range from Skytrex.  Anyway, it went together relatively simply.

I still need to add divisional markings and a vehicle number, but it's ready for the tabletop.

Nice 17lbr AT gun to make those Panzers think twice.  Open topped though so not great in a mortar or artillery barrage.

The crew aren't super detailed, but do the job.  Hopefully, a useful addition to my WW2 British forces.

20mm WW2 German Mediterranean infantry

Following Will's suggestion, I painted up some DAK figures in a mix of DAK colours and more conventional field grey uniforms.  These guys would work for Tunisia, Sicily and southern Italy, as well as the Balkans and Adriatic, and maybe even the southern USSR.

Figures are a mix of Esci, Italeri, Revell, Airfix and Caesar.

First up a 6 man platoon command group.

20mm WW2 Sherman V

This the the Ready2roll sherman with camo, that I picked up at the York Vapnartak show back in February.  Seems like a lifetime ago and on another planet.

Russian uniform green with khaki camo nets and tarps.  Washed with Agrax Earthshade and dry brushed with more Russian uniform green and Iraqi sand.  Camo vegetation picked out in reflective green and german camo bright green.  Wheels and metal equipment in black grey, wooden handles and crates in new wood.  Hatch interiors off white, uniforms khaki, flesh in sunny skin tone washed with Reikland flesh wash.  Caps black grey, badges silver.

I've still got to add some decals, although a lot is concealed by the camo nets and storage.  This one is going to be the FHQ for a British Armoured Division force, but there's another troop in the pipeline.

20mm WW2 US artillery

I needed some on table artillery support for my WW2 US forces, so picked up a pair of 105mm howitzers and crews from Grubby.  I'd assembled them ages ago, but only got round to doing anything with them recently.

Bazookas aren't always enough to keep the Panzers at bay, so I also picked up a pair of 57mm/6 pdr AT guns plus crews.

I also wanted a pair of .30 cal MMGs to represent dismounted recce crews.  These water-cooled .30 cals are from Caeser.

I used paints based on the Normandy paint scheme from Ray Haskin's Crowood guide, which seems to have worked out ok, English uniform trousers washed in Agrax Earthshade and blouses/jackets in khaki, with highlights lightened with Iraqi Sand.  Webbing and packs, etc., are German camo beige, helmets brown violet.
