20mm Polish FORMOZA frogmen

Here are two sets of Elhiem Polish Special Forces FORMOZA frogmen (SFP02) armed with Mp5s.  These were undercoated light grey, then washed NATO black.  They were then dry brushed black grey and basalt grey.  Skintone for any exposed faces, aluminium for goggle lenses and lights on head bands.  They were washed with dark tone ink diluted 2:1 with flow enhancer, then dry brushed basalt grey.  Weapons painted flat black with basalt grey dry brush.  Two coats of matt varnish to seal them.

These will do service as various special forces frogmen - US Navy SEALs, Marine Force Recon, Special Boat Service and others.  A nice little addition to my Special Forces collection.

What's on the workbench?  Well, a BAOR infantry section in NBC gear and some assorted 1980's British police.  I've also painted up a couple of distressed (rusty and dusty) Datsun pick ups - now doing the two Dushkas and crew to add a couple more technicals to my irregular forces.  After that, I'm not sure - I'll have to see what the painting muse fancies and whether I have enough dosh to get the infantry to finish off the 15mm Soviet MR Company that I posted on earlier this month.

Thanks for my Christmas present Lynda and thanks to you for looking.

  1. Those are fantastic Andy! I saw those on the Elhiem website and thought the same thing (using them for various countries' SF), but I can't pull off doing black the way you do. The really look great.

  2. Cheers Jack.
Glad you like them. I was worried about getting the black uniforms right, but they are just layered black, black grey and basalt grey dry brushed. I'm trying out the same technique on the Elhiem British police figures so will post them soon. They are more of a challenge though, as the black flak jackets contrast with their white shirts.
    Thanks again, Andy

  3. I'll definitely have to pick some of these up. But first I need to figure out how I'm going to base them, then I need to come up with some terrain.

  4. Mr C another awesome addition to your collection. Like the look of those Elhiem figures. Be good to see them emerging from the murky depths of the river in Tcherbevan!

  5. Cheers Richard. They were fun to paint and I've wanted to try getting black uniforms right for a while. Gave me the confidence to try out some UK police uniforms too - more on them in the future.
