20mm Early WW2 German MG08 team (lockdown 5)

Another success from the lockdown has been this item from the lead pile, an Under Fire Miniatures early war German MG08 team, three gunners and a three man loader team.

The MG08 - I figure this will be good for an early war HMG team or for a Volksturm HMG team in 1945 - as infantry in greatcoats were pretty much timeless during WW2.  I've based these behind a low bush and added some pink spring flower clumps for a bit of colour.

Three man loader team, all carrying additional ammunition for the MG08.

Nice figures, quite easy to paint with good raised detail.

Thanks for looking.

More 20mm UK Police

I picked up these packs of Under Fire Miniatures U.K. police from Paul at the club.  These were relatively straightforward, painted NATO black, dry brushed German grey, then basalt grey.  Helmets are Royal blue, check bands on hats and the "Police" label on the backs were picked out in Ivory.

These will go well with the previous figures from Elhiem linked below;

They even have the start of a group of villains/terrorist opponents; these from Stonewall Miniatures.

Chechen heavy weapons in 20mm

I've added some extra heavy weapons teams to my Chechen force for Andreivia (Arc of Fire) and Force on Force. These are all from Under Fire Miniatures, three SPG-9 teams and an AGS-17 AGL.  Rear right is the original SPG-9 team I painted last year, in front are the two additions.

One of the SPG-9 teams in more detail, ready to meet the Andreivian Armenian armour.

The AGS-17 team for when the opposition infantry gets a bit bunched up.

Spetsnaz in 20mm

This weekend I managed to finish my Under Fire Miniatures Spetsnaz figures (UFM Mod Rus 5).  These have been hanging around on the edge of my painting table since I picked them up at WMMS back in Feb/Mar.  I slotted them in between the British and Taliban figures I'm working on for our Force on Force campaign at the club.

All five figures, three with AK74s, one of these with a UGL, one RPG and AK74 and one PKM LMG.  They are wearing the sphere helmet, although the middle figure has added a full face plate.

AK-74 with UGL figure - he is carrying a slung LAW as well.

The RPG figure with slung AK-74.

AK-74 figure with face plate.

Running AK-74 figure.

PKM LMG figure.

Rear view of the figure group.

These are really nice figures.  I'll probably pick up some of the other packs in the range and be watching the web site to see if any new codes are released.  They are painted in Vallejo Russian green with dark sand spots, helmets are brown violet, boots and weapons in NATO black dry brushed basalt grey.  Wooden kit is English uniform, RPG and LAWs are in Russian green.  All were washed in Army Painter strong tone diluted 2:1 with acrylic thinners.  Hood lining was picked out in dark sand.

20mm Chechen AT team

Finally wrapped up the last of the Underfire Miniatures figures from the Phalanx show.  Chechen 3, a 2 man AT-5 Kornet/Spriggan team.  So, that's it 20mm wise for a while.  I might pick up some Elheim figures later in the year to bolster up the militia, but for now I'm back on the 6mm ACW figures and maybe some 6mm WW2 or moderns - haven't quite made up my mind.  Also got a load of Baggage Train D-day bunkers to sort out.

Thanks for looking.

More 20mm Taliban

Almost managed to finish off the Underfire Miniatures figures that I bought at Phalanx.  Just one Chechen ATGM team with AT-5 Kornet/Spriggan team (Chechen 3) to finish.

Taliban 1 - rear left to right, standing leader with binoculars and RPK SMG, SAM-7 and standing figure with AK-47.  front running figure with AK-47, masked figure with AK-47 and crouching figure with RPG-7.

Taliban 3, rear, two standing firing AK-47 (one bareheaded), front two kneeling firing a PKM MG and an AK-47.

The Taliban 2 pack is in an earlier post.

So, for Andreivia, so far I've put together a militia force comprising 8 generic militia, 8 Chechen militia and fourteen Taliban fighters.  With the Chechen Spriggan ATGM team this will take my militia forces to 32, enough to keep me busy for an Arc of Fire game, although I will need to thicken up the forces for an irregular force against any professional opposition, especially for games like Force on Force.

By the way, for the first time in ages, the light is good enough outside today to take these photos without flash in my back garden!!  We're currently enjoying our first sustained spell of sunshine for 3 years!!

Cheers for looking.

20mm Taliban fighters for Andreivia

Four more figures painted for modern skirmish gaming in the fictional Black Sea state of Andreivia, this time Underfire Miniatures Taliban 2, a set of 4 Taliban fighters, a kneeling sniper, standing figure firing AK47, advancing with AK47 and standing firing RPG.

The sniper figure and the standing figure firing AK-47.
Advancing with AK-47 and firing RPG.
Nice figures with very little flash and lots of detail.

We're planning on playing a Force on Force game tomorrow evening, which should be interesting to compare with the Arc of Fire game we played last week.

Thanks for looking.

Yet more 20mm modern skirmish

Modern Chechen fighters from Under Fire Miniatures.  These will be providing a better trained militia for Andreivia.  Not sure yet which faction they will be supporting.

Chechen 2 SAM/HQ team.  Observer/leader with binoculars, PKM MG, SAM7 and AK47 firing.
 From behind.
The leader/observer and PKM machine gunner.
 SAM-7 and AK-47 gunners.
Chechen 1 Tank Hunters.  Standing slung AK-47 (another possible leader), PKM MG, AK-47 and RPG-7 figures.
 And from the back.
The PKM machine gunner with possible leader figure.
 RPG-7 and AK-47 figures.

Again, nice figures to paint, undercoated in white acrylic gesso, shaded with army painter dark tone ink applied as a wash and painted using Vallejo paints.  Matt acrylic varnish by Wilkinson's.  Next, the Taliban.

More 20mm modern skirmish

Not a good day weatherwise so pressed on with the UFM militia for Andreivia.  These four figures are from Militia pack 2.  From left to right firing AK-47, patrolling with PKM MG, standing with AK-47 in Balaclava, and walking with RPK MG.  I've painted these in a mix of khaki cargo pants, jeans, T shirts and a ninja-esque balaclava figure.

The balaclava wearing AK-47 and RPK gunner.
The PKM gunner, who also carries a small radio on his belt, plus AK-47 gunner.

Next up, the UFM Chechens, if all goes to plan.  Thanks for looking.

Modern Skirmish 20mm

Having invested in Force on Force and Arc of Fire recently, I decided it was time to put together some forces for modern skirmish games.  As I'm planning on playing at the Crisis Point game next April, set in the fictional Black Sea country of Andreivia I decided to put together a militia force for the game with some opposition provided by some Major Power intervention forces.  The latter were easy, a box each of Italeri Modern US infantry and Soviet Special Forces, both from ModelZone sales in Liverpool and Plymouth.  I also added a couple of boxes of Esci Modern British and German infantry, courtesy of Will from the Defenders club.  For the militia forces I scoured various web sites and finished up purchasing a set of each of the Militia, Chechen and Taliban offerings from Under Fire Miniatures at Phalanx last week.  Using them all together should give a nice, ethnically diverse militia force.  I added a ready painted BMP-1 from Grubby Tanks and plan to equip a couple of pick-up trucks as "technicals" at some point in the future.  So, this week I found myself painting 20mm miniatures for the first time in 30 odd years.

First up, UFMs Militia pack 1, one kneeling and one standing figure firing AK47s, one advancing at the ready with AK47 and slung RPG-7 and a running figure with AK47 and disposable AT weapon.  I painted these in a mix of combat fatigues, denim jeans and T-shirts.
AK-47 firing and running figure with AK and disposable AT launcher
Kneeling firing AK-47 and advancing with AK-47 and slung RPG-7.
 US infantry/Marine section/fire team.
Section commander and two advancing infantrymen.
Kneeling and standing firing figures plus a running/charging figure.
British 90's infantryman test from the front -
 - and rear.
Soviet naval paratrooper test, from the front -
  - and rear.

Looking forward to getting these forces and their unpainted lead/plastic comrades on the table.  I've heard nothing but good things about FoF and AoF so looking forward to trying each of these out in the near future.  First read through suggests both should be good fun.
